Getting a property back to its pre-loss condition after a fire can take time. Fire claims can involve several types of damage, including smoke contamination, soot, odour, water damage from extinguishing the fire, damaged electrics, structural issues, and damage to fixtures, fittings, contents, or stock.
Your Aspray Loss Assessor can help assess the damage, prepare a detailed scope of works, and manage the insurance claim on your behalf. This may include specialist cleaning, decontamination, strip-out works, drying, structural reports, reinstatement works, and communication with your insurer.
If the property cannot be lived in, rented out, or used safely, your policy may include cover for alternative accommodation, loss of rent, business interruption, or other related costs. Where cover applies, Aspray can help support these parts of the claim.
Specialist fire damage services
Smoke and soot are toxic and corrosive. We ensure your property is thoroughly cleaned and safe following fire damage.
Even items not directly touched by flames can be affected. Specialist teams salvage and restore contents where possible.
Where needed, your loss assessor brings in third-party consultants to assess structural integrity of walls, roofs, and more.
Water damage from fire services or sprinklers is common. We take moisture readings and create a tailored drying plan.

Fire damage FAQs
I need to make a fire damage claim. What should I do?
Contact your insurer to notify them of the damage, then contact Aspray as soon as possible. You can also speak to Aspray first if you are unsure how to begin.
Your Loss Assessor can help you understand what information you need, assess the damage, prepare the claim, and guide the process from the first inspection through to completed reinstatement works.
Call 0800 077 6705 to speak to the Aspray team.
Why does smoke damage need to be included in a fire claim?
Fire damage can spread beyond the area affected by flames. Smoke and soot can travel through rooms, vents, roof spaces, soft furnishings, and building materials. This can leave staining, odour, residue, corrosion, and contamination.
Aspray can help assess visible and secondary fire damage, including smoke, soot, odour, and water damage from extinguishing the fire. Where needed, your Loss Assessor can help arrange specialist cleaning, decontamination, and reports to support the claim.
How much does Aspray cost?
Aspray’s loss assessing service is free to the policyholder, provided you appoint Aspray to carry out the approved reinstatement works using our vetted contractors.
You will still need to pay any policy excess. If you are VAT registered, you may also be responsible for paying VAT on the settlement, which you may then be able to reclaim from HMRC.
Do I still need to pay my excess if I appoint Aspray?
Yes. The excess stated in your policy still applies.
Your excess is the amount you agree to pay towards the claim before your insurer contributes. The amount should be shown in your policy schedule. Once the final settlement has been agreed with your insurer, your Aspray Loss Assessor will arrange collection of the excess payment.
Who can Aspray assist with fire damage claims?
Aspray can assist property owners making a claim under their buildings insurance policy. This includes homeowners, landlords, and business owners.
If your property has suffered fire damage and you want help managing the claim, call Aspray on 0800 077 6705. Your local Loss Assessor can inspect the damage, help validate the claim, and liaise with your insurer.
Can my items be restored rather than replaced?
We will always do our best to work with you to see if restoration is possible on sentimental items.
