Expert Support For Ground Movement Claims

Ground movement can cause serious damage to a property. Cracks in walls, sloping floors, sticking doors or windows, and movement around extensions can all be signs that the structure has shifted.

Subsidence, heave, and landslip claims can be complex. They often need specialist reports, monitoring, and a clear understanding of what has caused the movement. Aspray take care of all of this for you.

Restoring your property after ground movement

Ground movement claims can take longer than other property damage claims because the cause of the movement often needs to be investigated before repairs can be agreed. The claim may involve structural inspections, drainage surveys, soil investigations, arboriculture reports, crack monitoring, or other specialist evidence.

Subsidence happens when the ground beneath a property sinks. Heave happens when the ground expands and pushes the property upwards. Landslip happens when the ground moves sideways, often on a slope or embankment. Each issue can affect the structure in a different way, so the correct diagnosis matters.

Your Aspray Loss Assessor can help assess the visible damage, liaise with your insurer, coordinate specialist reports where needed, and help manage the claim on your behalf. Once the cause and scope of works are agreed, Aspray can support the reinstatement works through to completion.

John
Peterborough • Ground Movement
"I found George Masterton of Aspray to be efficient, knowledgeable, and incredibly organised. He immediately put me at ease and made a potentially difficult subsidence claim feel stress-free. I can highly recommend to anyone dealing with an insurance claim that they should engage Aspray to represent them as they fought to obtain us the best possible settlement in dealing with the works required to rectify the subsidence damage. The level of communication that George provided throughout the process was excellent. We were informed at every point of any development and George was always contactable and happy to assist in any way. I have no doubt that had we dealt with this matter ourselves we would have obtained less than half that which George has achieved."

Ground Movement FAQs

Everything you need to know about our subsidence damage service.
I need to make an impact damage claim. What should I do?

Contact your insurer to notify them of the damage, then contact Aspray as soon as possible. You can also speak to Aspray first if you are unsure how to begin.

Your Loss Assessor can help you understand what information you need, assess the damage, prepare the claim, and guide the process from the first inspection through to completed reinstatement works.

Call 0800 077 6705 to speak to the Aspray team.

Why might I need a structural report after impact damage?

Impact damage can affect more than the visible area. A vehicle collision, fallen tree, or falling debris may damage walls, foundations, adjoining structures, services, floors, roofs, or internal finishes.

A structural report may be needed to confirm whether the property is safe and what repairs are required. Aspray can help arrange reports from third-party specialists, such as structural engineers or chartered surveyors, where needed, and use this evidence to support the claim.

How much does Aspray cost?

Aspray’s loss assessing service is free to the policyholder, provided you appoint Aspray to carry out the approved reinstatement works using our vetted contractors.

You will still need to pay any policy excess. If you are VAT registered, you may also be responsible for paying VAT on the settlement, which you may then be able to reclaim from HMRC.

Do I still need to pay my excess if I appoint Aspray?

Yes. The excess stated in your policy still applies.

Your excess is the amount you agree to pay towards the claim before your insurer contributes. The amount should be shown in your policy schedule. Once the final settlement has been agreed with your insurer, your Aspray Loss Assessor will arrange collection of the excess payment.

Who can Aspray assist with impact damage claims?

Aspray can assist property owners making a claim under their buildings insurance policy. This includes homeowners, landlords, and business owners.

If your property has suffered storm damage and you want help managing the claim, call Aspray on 0800 077 6705. Your local Loss Assessor can inspect the damage, help validate the claim, and liaise with your insurer.
