Sounds terrifying! 36,000 lightning strikes hitting the UK over a 12-hour period. Following the cracking weather we had across the UK this summer; we are now feeling the aftermath. Heavy rain falls and extreme thunderstorms have hit our shores this week and the internet is alight with footage of electrical storms.

Yellow weather warnings have been in place in parts of the UK, especially across the south of England and the bad weather is set to continue throughout the week.
Oli Clayton, spokesperson from the Met Office said: “The main factor leading our weather in the next few days and indeed through the week is an area of low pressure coming to the west of the UK.
“And it sits there through the week, very slowly moving eastward.
“From that area of low pressure, we’ll get a number of fronts that are sort of spinning off it, as well as the thunderstorms which are being pushed up from the south.
“We’ve also got a cold front that’s moving eastward off of that low pressure, bringing further rain as well.”
Stay Safe, Stay Weather Aware
During the summer months, thunderstorms often bring along heavy rain, severe winds and even hail. With such severe weather, disruption to the roads, damage to property and even threats to life are a concern.
The Met Office have warned of dangerous driving conditions, damage to property from floor water, travel delays, damage to buildings from lightning strikes or gusty wind and potential short term power loss or loss of other services.
With more storms predicted for later today, it’s important to stay weather aware. When it comes to your property, preparing for stormy weather can reduce the risk of damage.
Thunderstorms and Insurance Claims
You home will likely be covered against storm damage. So, if bad weather damages your home, or caused a tree to fall on your roof, your policy is likely to pay for the damages.
