Storm damage claims can be complex because insurers will usually check whether storm conditions were present at the time the damage occurred, which involve specific criteria and can differ from policy to policy. This may include reviewing wind speeds, rainfall, hail, snow, and weather records for the area around your property.
Your Aspray Loss Assessor can help assess the damage, prepare a detailed scope of works, and manage the insurance claim on your behalf. Aspray can also use industry-level weather data to help validate the circumstances of the claim, where required.
Storm damage can cause direct external damage, such as missing roof tiles, damaged guttering, fallen trees, or broken windows. It can also lead to internal damage if rainwater enters the property. Where needed, your claim may involve emergency works, drying, temporary repairs, specialist reports, and reinstatement work.
If the property cannot be lived in, rented out, or used safely, your policy may include cover for alternative accommodation, loss of rent, business interruption, or other related costs. Where cover applies, Aspray can help support these parts of the claim.
Why choose Aspray?
To help validate your claim, Aspray uses WeatherNet, an independent platform that supplies historical weather data and is used by over 90% of UK insurers.
Aspray instruct vetted roofers to complete any reinstatement works, meaning you don’t have to spend time obtaining quotes for your insurer.
Should it be required, your Aspray Loss Assessor will instruct a professional third-party to carry out a structural survey, which we will then submit to your insurer.

Storm Damage FAQs
I need to make a storm damage claim. What should I do?
Contact your insurer to notify them of the damage, then contact Aspray as soon as possible. You can also speak to Aspray first if you are unsure how to begin.
Your Loss Assessor can help you understand what information you need, assess the damage, prepare the claim, and guide the process from the first inspection through to completed reinstatement works.

How does Aspray help validate storm damage claims?
Storm damage claims often depend on whether the weather conditions meet the insurer’s policy definition of a storm. This can make evidence important, especially where the claim involves roof damage, fallen trees, damaged fences, guttering, or water entering the property.
Aspray can use WeatherNet to access location-based weather data and help check the conditions around the time of the damage. This can support the claim by showing whether strong winds, heavy rainfall, hail, snow, or other storm conditions were recorded in the area.
WeatherNet provides weather data, reports, and insurance claims validation services for UK businesses, including the insurance sector.
How much does Aspray cost?
Aspray’s loss assessing service is free to the policyholder, provided you appoint Aspray to carry out the approved reinstatement works using our vetted contractors.
You will still need to pay any policy excess. If you are VAT registered, you may also be responsible for paying VAT on the settlement, which you may then be able to reclaim from HMRC.
Do I still need to pay my excess if I appoint Aspray?
Yes. The excess stated in your policy still applies.
Your excess is the amount you agree to pay towards the claim before your insurer contributes. The amount should be shown in your policy schedule. Once the final settlement has been agreed with your insurer, your Aspray Loss Assessor will arrange collection of the excess payment.
My storm claim was rejected. Can Aspray help?
Yes, in some cases we can. Storm damage claims are sometimes rejected because an insurer believes the weather conditions did not meet their policy definition of a storm, or because they consider the damage to be the result of poor maintenance rather than a storm event.
Our team can review the circumstances of your claim and check independent weather data to assess whether the insurer’s decision appears reasonable. If we believe there are grounds to challenge the decision, we can explain your options and advise whether we may be able to assist with pursuing the claim further.
If your storm damage claim has been rejected, get in touch with our team for an initial discussion. We can often provide a quick indication of whether we think the decision is worth investigating further.
